Professional Oil Change in Memphis, TN

Owning a car means ensuring its smooth and efficient performance and one of the most important aspects of car maintenance is regular oil changes. While many people prefer to change their own oil, it’s still best to get your oil changed by expert mechanics.

There are many types of motor oils, and your car manufacturer will specify which one is best suited for your vehicle. Whether your vehicle runs on gasoline or diesel, the type of oil needed will differ. However, when it comes to an oil change, the process remains the same for all makes and models.

During an oil change, your technician will:

    • Replace the motor oil with the recommended type by your manufacturer
    • Properly dispose of and replace the used oil filter
    • Inspect other essential filters (cabin filter, air filter, etc.)
    • Top up other fluids as needed

Though this may seem straightforward that anyone can do, it’s still best to leave it to the professionals.

    Why Oils Break Down?

    • Heat: The high temperatures inside the engine can cause the oil to lose its viscosity, making it less effective in lubricating and protecting the engine components.
    • Contamination: Dirt, debris, and other particles can get into the oil and cause it to break down faster.
    • Time: As time passes, motor oil naturally breaks down due to oxidation. This process causes the oil’s molecules to degrade and become less effective.

    How to Check Your Oil

    • Park on a Level Surface: Ensure your car is parked on flat ground. An uneven surface can lead to inaccurate readings.
    • Let the Engine Cool: Wait until your engine has cooled down completely. Checking the oil while the engine is still warm can give misleading results. Overfilling the oil is just as harmful as having too little.
    • Remove and Clean the Dipstick: Pull out the dipstick, wipe it clean with a cloth or paper towel, and reinsert it fully.
    • Check the Oil Level: Remove the dipstick again and hold it horizontally. Compare the oil level against the minimum and maximum markers on the dipstick.
    • Inspect Oil Quality: What’s the appearance of the oil.? If it looks white or creamy, this indicates moisture in the engine, which could signal other problems and require immediate attention.
    • Add Oil if Needed: If the oil is below the minimum mark, unscrew the oil filler cap (usually marked “Engine Oil” on top of the engine) and add the recommended oil.
    • Recheck the Oil Level: After a few minutes, recheck the dipstick to see if the correct amount of oil has been added.
    • Secure the Oil Cap: Ensure the “Engine Oil” cap is screwed back tightly to prevent leaks.
